For the first time since 1952, we may have NO sitting President or Vice President run for President. Sounds absolutely crazy, doesn't it. It's true. 2 Presidents will be nominated in 2008, and neither of them may be a sitting President or Vice President. Gore in 2000 was a sitting Vice President when he was nominated for President. George Bush Sr. in 1988 was a sitting Vice President. The likes of George W. Bush in 2004, Bill Clinton in '96, Jimmy Carter in '80, Richard Nixon in '72...the list goes on and on of a sitting President or Vice President who ran for President. The White House always had a person who was representing the previous four years. That will not happen if Dick Cheney elects not to run for President. Or, as long as Cheney or Bush are not replaced by a person who then runs for President. In 1952, when Dwight Eisenhower (Private Citizen) and Richard Nixon (Senator) faced Adlai Stevenson (Governor) and Estes Kefauver (Senator), each of those men were not part of the White House. That is the last time NO sitting President or Vice President ran for President. 2008 is shaping up as a year where ALL the candidates are new.-Unless you count "Billary", who is looking less and less like someone anyone would support.
